Microsoft Unveils New Logo Design

We’ve known that Microsoft was going with a redesigned Windows logo for Windows 8, and by extension, Windows Phone 8, eschewing its sweeping, wind-blown look for clean, straight lines. This redesign has momentum that’s taking it past these software products and bringing a new look to the company’s logo itself, as Microsoft revealed today.
The updated logo keeps that minimalist design of the new Windows insignia, with four, simple, colored squares. The similarity between those and the live tiles of the once-Metro UI is bound to be more than just a coincidence; Microsoft claims that the squares “are intended to express the company’s diverse portfolio of products”.
The name Microsoft itself gets a new font, reflecting what the company’s currently been using in its product designs. Between that and the new symbol, this represents the first change to the logo in twenty-five years.
Look for the new Microsoft logo to be all over the upcoming Windows Phone 8 launch. It’s already popping-up in the real world, with Microsoft embracing the design for its latest retail locations.
